We enjoyed a highly successful day at NPS Engineering Group on Wednesday, 8 October 2025, hosting 14 motivated Year 10 students from Oasis Academy Lister Park and their teacher for an engaging introduction to manufacturing and engineering. Organised into three rotating groups of four, the visit showcased the breadth of career opportunities in our sector, spanning shop-floor operations to office-based roles.
Factory Tours and Design Challenges
The morning commenced with 30-minute factory tours, leading participants through our comprehensive project life cycle. Key stops featured fabrications, transforming raw materials into precision-engineered components; the GRP section, demonstrating sustainable moulding processes; and our collaboration with Northern Pump Suppliers, illustrating practical applications in water treatment and energy sectors.
This was followed by a 30-minute design workshop combining digital and hands-on elements: students modelled pipe systems using 3D CAD software and assembled scaled-down pipework assemblies. Their evident enthusiasm shone through as they refined designs and collaborated on solutions.
Careers, Teamwork, and Future Impact
Shifting focus to our people, we connected the groups with our HR, Finance, and QHSE teams, who outlined their professional journeys—from BTEC programmes at university to apprenticeships—while highlighting NPS’s structured paid training and mentorship opportunities. The session concluded with a teamwork exercise, illustrating how interconnected roles drive our success.
